Total project management from design to installation
BriTec has furnished a new radiopharmacy at New Cross Hospital. Working closely in collaboration with the team and main contractor, BriTec was able to successfully manage New Cross’ shielding project from design to installation. A host of specialist shielding solutions was supplied to protect staff handling sources of ionising radiation.
This included customised workstations for dispensing PET and SPECT isotopes, shielded bins for the safe disposal of contaminated waste, ring shields for dose calibrators to reduce background, and safes and lockboxes for the secure storage of radioactive materials. Following completion of the work, BriTec spoke to the radiopharmacy team at New Cross, who reflected on the success of the installation and shared their plans for the future.

Why choose BriTec?
Quality Manager Radiopharmacy Stephanie Howells said, “We chose BriTec as they’re a company we are familiar with … Good product knowledge, and also, they are based in the UK.” Commenting on how the project and installation was managed, Stephanie said, “[BriTec] came down to site, easily accessible via email; very, very helpful.”
Malcolm Foley, Head of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering, added, “Nothing was too much of a problem, and there’s a dialogue going backwards and forwards when we were trying to achieve the solutions that we wanted to achieve.”
“I’ve been extremely impressed with the service …”
Stephanie said, “The new facility complies with the standards that the MHRA issue … We’ve gone with the highest shielding possible, so it will futureproof the facility for if we decide to do some of the more active treatments for PET.”
Production Manager Michael Marston said, “I’ve been extremely impressed with the service that BriTec have provided. They’ve supplied us with bespoke equipment and off-the-shelf equipment, all to a very high standard.”
